Senior scientist (coasts and oceans)

Are you experienced in numerical modelling for marine consultancy and/or research, and are you looking to make a move to join leaders in the field of computational hydraulics?

From coastal infrastructure developments to environmental impact assessments, from ports and navigation simulations to offshore renewable energy solutions, we advise clients worldwide how to design and manage the water environment.

The Coasts and Oceans Group at HR Wallingford is looking to recruit a Senior Scientist.

You will have several years of experience undertaking numerical modelling studies, and have a thorough understanding of physical oceanographic processes, particularly in coastal and/or estuary environments. With a passion for finding real-world applied solutions to complex challenges in the field of marine environmental hydraulics, you will have a commercial understanding and flexibility to work with others to deliver high quality project requirements in an innovative and timely manner.

Required

  • Experienced in numerical modelling of hydrodynamics, marine pollutant dispersion & water quality.
  • Experienced in coding in FORTRAN, Python and/or Matlab
  • Good understanding of coastal and estuarine physical processes
  • Good understanding of thermal / saline outfall dispersion, and water quality
  • Experienced in solving complex engineering / environmental challenges using numerical modelling
  • Able to work well with other modellers, scientists, and engineers
  • Experienced in writing clear technical reports / papers
  • Degree educated in physical sciences, mathematics, or engineering
  • Post-graduate qualification in a related field
  • A can-do attitude, enthusiastic, strong technically in both physical processes understanding and maths, pragmatic, and a good communicator.
